Match Recap

United salvaged a draw in what was an emphatic encounter between the two sides in Stockholm, Sweden. The match was very open with attacking football at both ends of the pitch. United will be glad to have recovered skipper Nemanja Vidic from injury but will be sweating with concern over the fitness of Luis Nani and Jonny Evans who both limped off with injuries. The starting line up was riddled with first team stars perhaps hinting at what could be David Moyes starting eleven come the Community Shield against Wigan at Wembley. The highlight of the line up was of course Nemanja Vidic who recovered from a bout of sciatica to feature in his first preseason match up.

The game started at a lively pace and featured early chances for both sides, with Wilfried Zaha guiding his shot wide of the marker in just under five minutes following some brilliant link up play with Luis Nani. Shortly after, AIK's Mutumba had an opportunity to open the scoring after he set up a mid range shot right into the hands of Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard following a slip up by Rafael. The remainder of the first half featured several opportunities for both sides and were it not for poor finishing and brave goalkeeping the score would not have been nil-nil heading into the break. The main talking point of the first half however was that of Luis Nani's departure at the half hour mark. The Portuguese international had been wreaking havoc down AIK's left flank and would have surely scored had he not had to come off.

The second half saw the introduction of United starlet Ben Amos in the place of Anders Lindegaard and started at the same frantic pace in which it ended. The hosts delivered an early blow in just under four minutes when Robin Quaison scored an absolute screamer into the top right hand corner of the United goal to give AIK a one goal advantage. The news got worse for United as center half Jonny Evans had to come off and was replaced by Chris Smalling. United battled through the half and it was substitute Angelo Henriquez who brought United Back on level terms following a neat first time finish from Wilfried Zaha's cross. United took hold of the game from there and had several more chances that fell to birthday boy Robin Van Persie who was unable to convert. In the end the match ended in a stalemate.

David Moyes will be glad to have the skipper recovered from injury. The Serbian completed the full 90 minutes and was a key player at the heart of the United defense. Had an opportunity to win the game with a powerful header off of Giggs corner that went just wide of the marker.
